Success Quickie: Why Everyone Needs an Original Strength Coach

One of our favorite, Original Strength Certified Coaches, PJ Olsen of Restorative Strength in Nashville, TN, couldn't help but share this fantastically short and sweet OS Success Story with everyone.

My holistic practitioner (a super chiropractor, acupuncturist, kinesiologist) had a double hip replacement surgery in October 2015.

Back in the beginning of this year (2016) he asked if I'd teach him more about Original Strength. Of course, I said yes, and was excited to share my passion with another person I cared about.

We finally got to the day for session #1. When I arrived he was moving very stiffly (in spite of having already done his assigned physical therapy exercises). I took him through the OSSA (Original Strength Screen and Assessment) and quickly discovered that he was not able to squat down!   He said that he'd actually never really been able to squat well at all. [Squatting is actually a fundamental movement pattern and important to maintain for a long, quality life. The lack of a squat is a sign of reflexive instability and often, a disconnect in your body. Read more about how we feel about squatting here. ]

We spent the next 30 minutes working on different resets, but primarily rocking and rolling (and breathing, of course). At the end of the session I asked him to squat again. He squatted to just below parallel...and with no pain!

Walking back from his workout room, I noticed his gait had become so much more fluid and smooth that even HE made a comment about it!

To say that he's thrilled with Original Strength is an understatement! And I already received a referral...he wants me to contact his Physical Therapist and teach her about Original Strength!

She had been a runner for 30+ years with 20 years of strength training under her belt when injuries became a regular occurrence. She was inspired to become certified as a kettlebell instructor in May 2012 at the age of 53. Recognizing that good movement is as essential as strength, PJ learned about Tim Anderson’s “Original Strength” in 2013 and attended several of his workshops. By following his movement restoration system she was able to create a resilient, mobile, and, for the most part, pain-free body and became certified as an Original Strength Coach in 2015. Currently she is pursuing her Yoga Alliance teacher certification at the 200-hour level with an emphasis on Gentle, Restorative, and Senior Yoga. PJ loves helping others learn to move better in order to improve their own quality of life and provide hope for their future![/author_info] [/author]
