You Will Not Find Your Salvation in a Bottle

There is a story behind that title/sentence. One I might tell one day. But today, I want to talk about the truth behind the sentence: You will not find your salvation in a bottle. You won't. Not any bottle; vitamins or alcohol. You won't find it in any diet either; paleo, Mediterranean, or donut diet.

But wait, what do I mean by "salvation"? I am talking about your health and wellness. We put salve on wounds so they can heal. And we look for "salve" (salvation) in bottles, diets and fads so we can heal too. And healing doesn't just have to mean being physically healthy, it can also mean having peace of mind and happiness, or joy inside of us as well. Think "wholeness" or 360 degrees of wellness.

Many of us look for salvation in all the wrong places. We turn to vitamins to stay healthy and young, we turn to diets to become "happy" and lean, we turn to alcohol to numb the pain of loss or depression. And thats what we do; we turn, or spin, from one thing to another. We somehow skeptically believe advertisements and promises of health, freedom, happiness, "perfect body", or whatever. Yes, we skeptically believe. Deep down inside, we know better than to buy into the lies, but we have a deep desperate hope that somehow these gimmicks will work. We hope we will find our golden ticket, magic potion, or miracle cure. But we won't, at least not in all of these empty bottles and empty promises.

Don't get me wrong. I do believe in miracles. I've experienced them. In fact, I believe each of us are walking miracles that actually contain, in our own bodies, some of the very things we turn everywhere else to find. Inside all of us is an operating system that was given to us to enable us to become strong, healthy, joyful and sound.

What?

It is true. Do you know anyone who has had back pain? Did they take pain pills? Did they take a nutrition supplement to heal their vertebrae? Did they seek alternative medicines and therapies? By the way, why do people turn to alternative medicine so often? Because there seems to be little hope in traditional medicine. Anyway, your friend with back issues, did they try all kinds of possible solutions and remedies? Probably. I can not tell you how many people I have met, myself included, that has turned everywhere for help and hope. Do you want to know what really seems to help with back issues? Rocking, or rolling, or both.

That's right, the movement program within you, the one you were designed with, is often the one that helps heal, or remove, pain and other movement issues.

What about depression? Have you ever met anyone who is always sad, or angry, or just a sour puss? Did they turn to Saint John's Wart, or Jack Daniels, or Nitrous Oxide, or whatever to lift their moods? Have you ever seen the smile on a kids face who is running, skipping, or playing? Have you ever seen the frown on a person's face who cannot skip, or run? Movement brings our the joy in people. It lifts their moods. Your movement template is intimately tied to your joy and your feeling of well being. It is inside of you.

What about diets? How many people do you know who try every diet under the sun? Who swear by certain ways to eat? Who swear away carbs even though the brain needs sugar and the muscles store glycogen? Or people who have tried to avoid fats even though the nervous system needs fat to function properly? We vilify food and turn to diets when the key to eating well is already inside of us: movement. You want to have a healthy diet? Then move the way you were designed to move. Move often and on purpose - in other words, live. If we live (move) we can eat. And, more than likely, we will eat the "right things" at the "right times".

The point is that many of us spin our whole lives. Turning from one promise to another, from one fad to another, from one bottle to another. I, too, have done this. But thankfully I was rescued. And what I found, was what I'd already been given. Our design is perfect. Most everything we need is already inside of us.

There is no need to turn to empty bottles for salvation. In fact, if man has made it, or come up with it, there is no salvation to be found. Our salvation, our health or wholeness, can only be found in the gifts we have already been given. Look to your gifts.

+++++++

For what it is worth, I am not anti-vitamin! I take them. I just don't look to them to rescue me. I used to. But I don't anymore. I in no way am trying to offend anyone who uses supplements, vitamins, or anything else. Only saying you've got a really awesome body that can address many of its own issues.
