Yesterday

Yesterday, all my troubles seemed so far away
Now it looks as though they're here to stay
Oh, I believe in yesterday

Suddenly, I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hanging over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

Famous words from The Beatles song, “Yesterday.”

Many of us live in “yesterday.”

Although yesterday may have been good, and mine certainly was, it was my little girl’s second birthday, I’m living for today AND tomorrow.

I’m preparing for now, and what’s to come.

And actually, it wasn’t too long ago when my “yesterdays” were nothing to long for.

Being physically broken and in chronic pain is mentally and emotionally draining.

Now I run up stairs and dodge people in the halls like a running back, something that was impossible 10 years ago. I roll around on the floor with my 2 year old daughter, biting my nose. And I run through the park with my 4 year old son chasing me, yelling, “Slow down, Da-a-a-a-a-d!”

The key to today’s success was focusing what I needed to do each day, while it was called “today” - AND - living with an eye on tomorrow. I had a vision of where I wanted to go and who I wanted to be.

That’s the funny thing about the RESETs: They turn what could be bleak future into a sunny yesterday. They rewind the physical and mental clock. They make you young again.

Do them every day like I do for a better tomorrow.

Makes me think of this song:

Things are going great, and they're only getting better
I'm doing all right, getting good grades
The future's so bright, I gotta wear shades.

“The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades,” Timbuk3
