The Secret of Superman

This article is about a fictitious character, but it has a lot of truth woven inside. Perhaps the character isn't that fictitious, but that is another article for another time...

What made Superman so great? What made him super? Was it because he was invincible? Was it because he was brave? Was it because he "did good" and tried to stop evil? No. It was none of these things. Superman was not great because of his deeds, acts and physical characteristics. Superman was not great because of the things he could do. It wasn't flying or super-speed, or invincibility that made him great. Superman was great because he was Superman.

He was Superman. It was who he was that made him great, not the things he did and not the things others said about him. He could not help but be Superman because that is who he was.

Hang with me. (or fly with me)

You are not the things you do. Whether you hold the door open for a stranger or you smile at the lady taking your order at McDonalds. You are not good because you are a good person, and you are not strong because you can pick up heavy objects. You are strong, or "good", because that is who you are. It is not your acts that make you who you are. It is who you are that makes you who you are.

Keep hanging.

You are not strong because you exercise and workout. You are strong because strength is inside of you and it is desperate to express itself. You are strong because strong is who you were born to be. Know what else? You are smart. You are capable. You are compassionate. You are good.

If you don't think you are any of these things, it is simply because you may not know who you actually are. If you are only looking at your current physical circumstances or you are only listening to what others say about you, you could be greatly deceived. If there is a desire in you, whether you currently express the desire or not, that desire is probably reflecting your true self; who you really are, who you are meant to be.

Just because you don't see the fruit doesn't mean you don't possess the root. Why do you think little boys want to be superheroes? Because that is who they were meant to be. Why do little girls want to be princesses and queens? Because that is who they are. Why do people want to be strong? Because strength is in them crying out to be revealed.

Again, it is not what a person does that makes them who they are. It is who a person is that makes them who they are.

You might be thinking, "Well then, how come I am not strong?" Or, "Why do I not feel smart?" Or, "Why do I always get in fights when I want to be nice to others?"

What if you are not the things you want to be because you simply don't know who you are?
If you don't know who you are, how can you be who you are supposed to be? It is easy to do things you really don't want to do when you don't really know who you are. Your "bad" actions don't make you who you are anymore than your "good" actions do. Your actions will never truly line up with who you are until you actually know who you are supposed to be.

Any other person with the abilities and powers of Superman would not be Superman if that were not who they were inside. Can you imagine an evil, mean person with all of Superman's gifts? Would you think that person would be named Super? Nope. Not at all. Ever see the movie Hancock? Hancock had an identity crisis. He didn't know who he was, and his actions made him seem like quite the jerk. Hancock was not super at all until he learned who he was.

Superman was only super because it is who he was supposed to be, AND he knew who he was.
You too are meant to be super. But you have to know that. And I'm telling you that right now, but you have to know it.

Who are you? Who are you supposed to be? If you don't know who you are, if you do not feel like you are expressing who you are supposed to be, keep your head up, look inside and PRESS RESET.

One of the most powerful resets you can ever engage in is knowing who you are. When you know that, you will express it. When you realize your roots, you will bear your fruits.

PRESS RESET, because you cannot truly soar until you know that you were born to fly.
