Do It Anyway

Life is funny.

As predictable as we’d like to make it, partitioned in our Day-Planners or iPhone calendars, sometimes, circumstances are seemingly beyond your control. day-timer

How you react to those circumstances are not.

For example, last night I got about 0.68 hours of sleep. Tossed and turned all night long. Finally got up around 4am and worked until 6am when my eyes felt heavy again. So I crawled back into bed and got out about 845. I still didn’t sleep. I rested - Which, I rationalized, was better than not resting.

When I got up, I had to hit the ground running with phone appointments. And that meant my daily OS RESETS routine was thrown off.

It would’ve been tempting to blow them off. However, I know the power of the resets, particularly the “Performance” resets, which I do 6 days a week, so I decided to do my OSP anyway.

What’s this have to do with you?

I can think of two quotes that immediately come to mind on days like today:
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company ... a church ... a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude ... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you ... we are in charge of our Attitudes.”  - Chuck Swindoll

And -
“Do the thing, have the power.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson

So when you’re having a “bad” day, or a day that doesn’t go as planned, remember, attitude and action are critical to overcoming your circumstances. The beautiful thing about the OS RESETS is that they compound your “good” attitude and “good” actions - they make you think more clearly, move more fluidly, and respond (instead of react) more calmly.

Don’t take my word for it - next time you’re having a bad day and don’t feel like doing your RESETS, remember this post and do them anyway. You’ll thank yourself for it almost immediately.

Gotta run - have a million things to do today and I have to be in control of that planner!
