The Eyes Lead

Categories: Blog Dec 06, 2015

In Original Strength we often talk about how the body follows the head and the head follows the eyes. Learning, or remembering, how to move the eyes and head is a reset. It activates the vestibular system and it connects the entire body. That is, head control is on of the secrets to strength.

If you are familiar with OS, you know there are often many layers of truth. Head control is indeed a secret to strength. Strength, however, is not just a physical quality. Strength is also a quality of the mind. And just as the body follows the head, the body also follows the mind (which resides in your head). Strength in the mind will result in strength in the body.

The eyes lead the head, the head leads the body. Again, this is true both physically and mentally. But the eyes lead...

What do you put in front of your eyes? Where are you looking to? What do your read? What do you study? I ask this because whatever it is you fixate your eyes upon, you sow thoughts, images and ideas into your mind. These thoughts, images and ideas become real in your head, they shape the way you think, they influence your emotions, and they eventually effect your body in some way. Sometimes this physical effect is clear and sometimes it is subtle.

For an over-simplified example, if you believe crawling like a baby will make you strong, you will likely crawl, with that belief, and become very strong. If you believe crawling like a baby will make you weak, you will likely not crawl. The absence of crawling could result in weakness, or less strength than you would have had if you had crawled. BUT if you believed crawling would make you weak, AND you crawled with that belief, you would more than likely still become weak. Why? Because your mind would be set on an expected outcome, you would be believing an idea, a vision (in the eyes of your mind...) that your body will follow and express. This is true - there is power and mystery in your mind.

Anyway, this starts with the eyes. Again, what are you looking at? Do you invest time in reading negative facebook posts? Do you fill your eyes with the anger, skepticism, agenda, or hatred of others? Do you really believe you can read these things and not have them affect you? Do you watch movies filled with horrific violence? Do you watch the 6:00 news?

Don't get me wrong, I am not saying you should live your life sheltered from the events of the world, but I might be saying that you should make sure you don't fill your eyes with nothing but darkness. If you have to view the news, strive for facts and stay away from opinions. And also remember that there is a great deal of good happening in the world. Maybe look for that too. Or find some pictures of kittens. Everyone loves pictures of kittens.

Your eyes, what you focus on physically and mentally (you can look at things in your head - meditate, ponder, focus) does and will influence how you think. What you think, the thoughts you keep in your head, does and will influence your emotions as well as your physical health and strength. Fill your eyes and your mind's eyes with good things. Focus on stories of hope, focus on good expected outcomes, focus on the things you want to become. Follow your eyes in the direction you want to go. Your focus will direct your path. The eys lead the head. Where the head goes, the body follows.
