The Strength Behind the Strength: Why Most Programs Miss This Layer

Every time we share a video of someone crawling—like Tim’s recent 10-minute nonstop crawl—it catches attention.
Not because it’s flashy.
It’s because, deep down, people recognize:
This kind of strength is different.
This isn’t brute force.
It’s reflexive strength—the kind of strength that comes from the inside out.
It’s what allows an athlete to absorb force and redirect it.
It’s what helps joints stay stable in chaos.
It’s what creates control and coordination when the pressure is on.
So why is it missing from most strength and conditioning programs?
Because it’s not well understood.
Most coaches are taught to consider strength in terms of output—poundage lifted, power produced. But the input side of the equation, how well the nervous system coordinates movement, is often overlooked.
And here’s what that leads to:
- Athletes who can move a bar fast but can’t move their own body efficiently.
- Clients who “check the boxes” in training but still feel stiff, disconnected, or keep getting hurt.
- Coaches who add more load to a body that’s out of sync…. Not tied together.
Reflexive strength changes that.
It’s the body’s natural, built-in ability to:
- Stabilize without conscious bracing
- React and recover with speed and coordination
- Move powerfully, fluidly, and with purpose.
And it’s trainable—through what we call Pressing RESET.
What is Pressing RESET?
It is the engagement of our foundational, developmental movement patterns:
- Diaphragmatic breathing
- Head control
- Rolling
- Rocking
- Crawling
These are not arbitrary regressions, or 'just for rehab', or merely simple stretches. They’re the neurological foundation for all movement. They establish the most efficient pathways for complex movement.
When we revisit these patterns, especially under load or at the optimal stimuli, they restore posture, coordination, and body control at a subconscious level. These patterns improve how the nervous system organizes movement.
And that’s what creates better outcomes across the board:
- Faster reaction time
- Improved energy transfer
- Greater movement efficiency
- Lower injury risk
- Improved strength and resiliency
This isn’t just rehab. This is readiness.
Reflexive strength doesn’t just make people feel better; it makes them perform better.
At every level, from pros to gen pop, what holds people back isn’t always lack of force; it's lack of a foundation: lack of control, lack of connection, and lack of movement integrity and fluidity.
Reflexive strength gives you all of that.
It’s the missing layer in performance.
And it’s time we bring it to the front of the conversation.
