Just Press the Button

As it happens, every few years, I realize I can never quickly and clearly explain what it means to Press RESET. And that’s a problem because the main thing I do, my one job, is to teach people what Pressing RESET does and why they should WANT to do it.

So, apparently, it is now time that I make an attempt to refine my explanation of what Pressing RESET is. Don’t worry; this will be quick. OH! And don’t worry, if you still don’t get it, I’ll likely try this again in about two or three years!

Here we go…

Pressing RESET is a series of movements that help you to feel better, move better, and think better. You were born with these particular movements preprogrammed into your nervous system, and when you engage in them, you get better.

You get better? Yes! You improve when you perform these movements. Your brain feels safer, you breathe easier, your nervous system returns to its default “rest and digest” state, your movements become smoother and freer, your emotions “feel” better, your thoughts become clearer, and you can learn, focus, and remember easier, you sleep better, and you love deeper.

I know, but that’s not a joke. I’m being serious. When you perform these movements and learn how to live in them and through them, EVERYTHING about you gets better or brighter.

These movements are like reset buttons for your nervous system and, in many ways, for your life. When we move how humans are created to move, everything about the human body and the human experience is optimized; how we perform and function in life is just better.

I know that may be hard to believe, but I’m not asking you to believe me. I’m inviting you to experience what I’m telling you and learn the truth about these movements.

Learn how you were designed to breathe. Learn how to activate your vestibular system. Learn how to fully engage in your gait pattern. If you do these three things regularly, you are essentially resetting your body ALL. THE. TIME. And the result of doing these three things, the result of resetting your body, is that you will feel GOOD all over, inside and out. You can absolutely move your life better by Pressing RESET, and it’s AWEsome.

OK, do you know what Pressing RESET does for you and why you should want to do it?

  1. I know I didn’t actually tell you specifically how to do it, but I’m trying to explain what it is and why to do it.

So, how’d I do? Let me know in the comments below.

This current description checks all the boxes -- as have your others in the past. I think your "reset" message either makes sense or it doesn't, i.e., the person hearing/reading it either is ready, and needs it, or is just not ready yet. That in no way means you should stop spreading the word! The farmer just continues on, planting seeds and cultivating.

Tim, here is a "reset" from Scott Popp that I think you might enjoy; it's "not hard, but not easy": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sRKecTVjcw

Well Tim, it's as good a description as anyone can give of course :-)

I tend to separate out the two concepts...Original Strength and Pressing Reset.

I use the phrase "your original strength" when I am connecting with a person who I know has faith or is trying to find it again. Someone who can understand that GOD did not put us here to be weak and frail and that HE gave us the movement template we need to express ourselves at the levels HE always intended us to, that HE wants you to be happy, whole, healthy, and strong and by engaging in the design, the way HE intended, you can be so. Then we learn to re-engage in the design HE gave us with Faith and Purpose.

The simplest way I try to explain Pressing Reset is by saying that the Nervous system is at the helm as it relates to our movement. When we experience restrictions and limitations in our movement, it is often the result of less-than-ideal information we have been feeding into our nervous system... All pressing reset is, is giving the nervous system a fresh new input, something new to work with, and sometimes that's all that is needed to create a change, a new stimulus, akin to strength training, our program has plateaued and now we're regressing, we need to switch it up....I then tell them to touch their toes....oh you can't? Lay down and breathe with your diaphragm, and then let's try that again...BINGO ;-)

I think ultimately, it's always going to come down to the first-hand experience of the Resets so maybe more videos done in an instructive manner, just like you do at the workshops, have people find a baseline and then test against a few simple resets, I think then it will make more sense to the uninitiated.

My favorite elevator pitch for Pressing Reset of course is yours, Tim ....."It Feels Good To Feel Good" ...Pressing Reset by engaging in our original design just MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD!

    Just my 2 cents.

With Love and Gratitude for all you do!

    Quincy Henry,

I just SO appreciate learning that you also can struggle with the explanation of your marvelous system! My passion for Original Strength definitely laps my full understanding of how it works! I keep getting better w my explanations, but still wish I knew so much more!

I’m hoping I keep getting better with the explanations too!
